HAPPY BIRTHDAY, J.J. ROUSSEAU! [PRO DEATH PENALTY QUOTE OF THE WEEK ~ SUNDAY 23 JUNE 2013 TO SATURDAY 29 JUNE 2013]

French Philosopher, J.J. Rousseau was born on this date, 28 June 1712, he would have been 301 years old if he was alive today. I will post the Pro-Death Penalty Quote from him to celebrate his birthday.

Rousseau in 1753, by Maurice Quentin de La Tour
QUOTE: In J.J. Rousseau's The Social Contract written in 1762, he says the following: “Again, every rogue who criminously attacks social rights becomes, by his wrong, a rebel and a traitor to his fatherland. By contravening its laws, he ceases to be one of its citizens: he even wages war against it. In such circumstances, the State and he cannot both be saved: one or the other must perish. In killing the criminal, we destroy not so much a citizen as an enemy. The trial and judgements are proofs that he has broken the Social Contract, and so is no longer a member of the State.”

AUTHOR: Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Geneva, 28 June 1712 – Ermenonville, 2 July 1778) was a major Genevois philosopher, writer, and composer of the 18th-century Enlightenment. His political philosophy influenced the French Revolution and the development of modern political and educational thought.
