OUTBACK SERIAL KILLER ON THE LOOSE IN SYDNEY

Serial killer Reginald Arthurell, now known as Regina Kaye, has moved from Sydney retirement home. As an Outback Serial Killer is now on the loose, I will post two news sources before giving my comments.

Serial killer moved from Sydney retirement home

A notorious serial killer has been moved out of her Western Sydney home after a push to have her removed by the local community.

Reginald Arthurell, who is responsible for the deaths of three people, including his fiance, was released on parole in November.

Arthurell, 74, came out as transgender while behind bars and now goes by the name of Regina Kaye.

Kaye has been living in Yagoona retirement home since her release from prison.

But on Friday afternoon, the 74-year-old was removed from the village by caseworkers.

Regina Arthurell’s parole conditions do not prevent her from living as a woman.

She was offered a halfway house at Malabar, in Sydney’s south east, but chose not to live there.

Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour earlier expressed he didn’t want Kaye living in his city, describing the killer as a “grub”.

“Not welcome in my city!,” As four wrote on Facebook.

“I am outraged that convicted serial killer Regina Kaye, formerly known as Reginald Kenneth Arthurell has been allowed to live in our city under a cloud of secrecy.

“Residents of the retirement facility at Yagoona where Kaye is now staying should have been told of the killer’s presence.

“Our city and community deserve better and the authorities must explain how they plan to stop this person from reoffending.”

Most of Kaye’s neighbours had no idea who she was until they saw photos of her circulating in the media.

One neighbour said she was “relieved” that Kaye had been moved.

Regina was removed from the retirement village on Friday.

“I’m glad the media got onto where he lived, with us,” one neighbour told 7NEWS, adding she was “disgusted” no one had told her.

“I can’t believe the parole board put him here.”

In 1997, Kaye fatally bashed her fiance Venet Mulhall in her Coonabarabran home in with a piece of wood.

She was released on parole in November after spending 24 years in prison for murder.

Arthurell had already killed two people when he met Venet Mulhall.

Aged 28, he killed his stepfather, Thomas Thornton, with a carving knife.

Several years later he and another man robbed and killed 19-year-old Ross Browning.

Kaye’s parole ends on May 24, but an Interim Supervision Order taken out by the NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman will immediately come into force.

Outback serial killer could ‘go bush’ again, judge warns

JULY 5, 2021 3:37PM

news.com.au

Outback serial killer Regina Kaye Arthurell, who a court heard is “at risk of killing again”, could “go bush” again, a judge has warned.

Justice Richard Button warned that Arthurell – who committed three separate killings in the outback, including one murder while she was still “on the run”, wanted to return to the countryside.

When she was known as Reginald Kenneth Arthurell, the now 75-year-old offender was also a person of interest in a fourth outback killing, the unsolved 1971 murder of Catherine Page, 82, in Coonamble.

“ (Arthurell) did feel much more comfortable living in the country, worked for RM Williams and enjoyed rodeo riding,” Justice Button said.

“A person can go to Central Station and jump on a long distance train to many different parts of NSW.

“An elderly person can pick up a steak knife.”

But Arthurell’s lawyer, David Barrow, told a NSW Supreme Court hearing before Justice Button that Arthurell was too old or incapacitated to go bush.

He also said the defendant was unsteady on her feet, had a pronounced tremor, and was constantly getting lost even while living in the city.

He said when Arthurell had been on the run, she was then aged 48.

“She … is now 75. Her capacity to do anything to avoid the authorities is so small as to almost be ridiculous,” he said.

“She has very limited eyesight, very limited hearing and difficulty with mobility … and no connections with anyone.”

He said the idea of Arthurell going bush was “a very unlikely prospect” and the defendant “could live where she is required to live”.

He described a requirement for Arthurell to wear an electronic monitoring anklet as onerous.

“It puts a person in a complete straitjacket. It’s obviously stressful, highly intrusive,” Mr Barrow said.

The court heard earlier that Arthurell is at risk of committing future violence and killing again, but forgets to charge her electronic anklet and has a tremor which makes it difficult plugging it in.

The NSW Supreme Court also heard that the triple killer, who is “undergoing a transition to her preferred gender, female” had cognitive decline.

This was disputed by Crown prosecutor Katrina Curry, who told the court a 2020 aged care assessment had deemed Arthurell “independent with all activities of daily living”.

She said Arthurell had a history of “irritability and recklessness and a reckless disregard” and was “still displaying some of those traits” which could lead to aggression and violence.

A psychiatrist told the court that supervision restrictions on Arthurell “could escalate her level of frustration so that she behaves in a violent manner”.

Forensic psychologist Ivanka Manoski told a supervision hearing before Justice Richard Button that Arthurell posed a moderate or medium risk of “committing a further serious violence offence (that) could involve serious violence that is fatal”.

Arthurell’s biggest risk factors for committing violence were “poor emotional regulation, alcohol abuse and isolation”, the court heard.

The State of NSW is applying for a three-year Extended Supervision Order (ESO) over Ms Arthurell, who the court heard had spent 37 years in prison for one murder and two manslaughter convictions.

The defendant was previously known as Reginald Kenneth Arthurell when she offended in Queensland and the Northern Territory, before murdering her fiancee Venet Mulhall, who was bashed to death with a piece of wood in 1995.

Forensic psychiatrist Dr Yolisha Singh told the court that a proposed condition that significant changes to her appearance be reported “might prove quite onerous”.

Dr Singh said a gender transition involved “all sorts of different changes, taking deportment classes to change the way to walk, elocution classes, in addition to changing physical changes in hairstyle or wigs or attire”.

“Ms Arthurell said to me how distressed she was that she was photographed by the media in different wigs.”

Dr Singh said she had found Arthurell to be “very unsteady on her feet” and that she “mobilised very slowly”.

The psychiatrists said she had noticed when asking the offender to sign a consent form, Arthurell had “a marked tremor” and had to use her other hand to still the signing hand.

The doctor said Arthurell had “hearing and visual impairments” and there was a “concern about her remembering to charge the electronic monitoring equipment”.

“In addition, I think her tremor makes that process quite difficult, quite frustrating,” Dr Singh said, marking a warning note that this could lead to violence.

“Conditions that are hostile or unnecessarily restrictive … could escalate her level of frustration so that she behaves in a violent manner or acts aggressively to return to custody where she has felt a sense of belonging or acceptance,” Dr Singh said.

Justice Button said on Monday afternoon he would reserve his decision on whether to impose an ESO until Tuesday.

The ESO would take over from an Interim Supervision Order (ISO) imposed in April, which expires on July 19.

Arthurell’s full sentence and supervision on parole ended on May 24, but NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman took out the ISO which came into force on that day.

This meant Arthurell was still required to wear a tracking anklet and be subject to restrictions over changing his appearance.

Her 16 parole conditions until May 24 had not prevented a change of appearance, but the ISO did include a condition about reporting significant changes in her physical appearance.

Photos posted by the violent outback killer on the internet showed her dressed in a series of women’s wigs posing for the camera.

The photos were allegedly posted on a transgender community friendship page by Arthurell, who now goes by the name of Regina Kaye.

She posed in three different coloured wigs, including one in a dark brown bob which she used as her signature image with the words, “Hi, I’m Regina”.

Since his prison release, Arthurell has been investigated for allegedly making threats against his female victim’s family.

NSW Police were investigating a claim Arthurell had vowed to “take out” the family of his last victim, Venet Raylee Mulhall.

Corrective Services NSW referred police to an allegation by a concerned transgender community member that Arthurell allegedly contacted via the Facebook page.

He had allegedly said he would act against the family and Corrective Services once his parole had ended and he was no longer wearing a tracking anklet.

Corrective services said it was “aware that an associate of a 74-year-old parolee has contacted the registered victim of the offender (and) … immediately referred” the matter to NSW Police.

Arthurell was released on parole last November after serving 24 years in prison for bludgeoning Venet Mulhall, then his fiancee, to death in 1997 with a piece of wood.

Arthurell, a former rodeo worker, was an outback drifter when he committed his first two killings four decades ago.

The tall, powerful, self styled “cowboy” had two manslaughter convictions when he met vulnerable and devoutly religious Venet Raylee Mulhall in the 1980s.

When Arthurell was 28, he killed his stepfather, Thomas Thornton, 49, with a carving knife and then went on the run.

Working at rodeos in Queensland and the Northern Territory, Arthurell met another man and together in 1981 they robbed and killed 19-year-old sailor, Ross Browning.

Browning’s mutilated body was found in scrub just 35km east of Tennant Creek.

NT Police described the killing as “the most vicious” they had investigated, but two murder trials were aborted and both men pleaded guilty to reduced charges of manslaughter.

Ms Mulhall started writing to Arthurell in 1986 when he was serving time in Darwin Correctional Centre for Browning’s killing.

A Prison Fellowship Christian, Ms Mulhall was five years older than Arthurell and visited him in prison, where he was baptised and convinced her – and authorities – he had found God and reformed.

Ms Mulhall had suffered a broken marriage and had been left with her face permanently paralysed and disfigured by an operation to remove a tumour next to her brain.

Arthurell, who had proposed to Ms Mulhall, was released into the care of his new fiancee in April 1991.

He was still on parole in February 1997 when he murdered her at the Coonabarabran home in central western NSW that Ms Mulhall had bought to forge their new life together.

Her brother, Paul Quinn, found Ms Mulhall’s decomposing body at the home.

Inside, he discovered – on his sister’s camera – images of Arthurell, who had fled in Ms Mulhall’s car, wearing his fiancee’s clothing.

Arthurell’s full sentence for murdering Ms Mulhall expired on May 24.

Paul Quinn said Arthurell should have been sentenced to life without parole.

“These people commit crimes that are so outrageous that they exclude themselves from society,” Mr Quinn told 2GB.

“The first thing the judge should actually consider is how do you reintegrate these people back into society.

“You can’t. They should stay in prison for the rest of their life.”

MY COMMENTS:

Regina Arthurell’s case was similar to Barry Hadlow, Lenny Keith Lawson and Keith Burley, Jr., they were all brilliant actors to fool the parole board to release them, by acting as model prisoners.

It proves the point that any country that abolishes the death penalty, will abolish life sentences next. The next time, if any Australian dares to lecture your country on death penalty and life imprisonment. Tell them about this case. Do not be surprise if Arthurell might reoffend again like Albert Flick, a 77-year-old man previously deemed "too old to be a threat" was sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing a woman in front of her children, four decades after he was convicted of a nearly identical crime. This is another great example of why Prisoner Rights Activists will remain silent as it is too extremely embarrassing for them to talk about recidivist killers.

THAILAND’S JACK THE RIPPER SENTENCED TO DEATH (MARCH 17, 2021)

Thailand is a Buddhist country so people are always questioning why executions are allowed here. Yes, killing is sinful but Buddhism teaches us to look at the intention behind the act. The intention here is to protect the country, so it is permitted. Since the Sukhothai dynasty, the King has gone out to fight wars. He and his troops have had to kill enemies to protect the country - execution is the same. [Quoted in THE REAL BANGKOK HILTON BBC Documentary 22 July 2004]

He also stole from the woman with whom he moved in with 10 days previously. He murdered her just 7 months following his parole after being originally sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of 5 women in hotel bedrooms across Thailand.

On March 17, 2021, the Khon Kaen Provincial Court has passed the death sentence on paroled serial killer Somkid Phumphuang for the murder of a woman in 2019 in Kranuan district. Keep in mind, Somkid was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering five women in 2005. They were singers and masseuses. He was arrested in the same year. Media reports dubbed him "Thailand's Jack the Ripper".

I feel that he is no different from Kenneth McDuff. Just like Barry Hadlow, Lenny Keith Lawson and Keith Burley, Jr., Somkid was a brilliant actor to fool the parole board to release them.  That us why death is a stronger lock than life imprisonment. There is no way a dead killer can reoffend again.

Paroled serial killer sentenced to death for 2019 murder

published : 2 Apr 2021 at 15:11

KHON KAEN: The Khon Kaen Provincial Court has passed the death sentence on paroled serial killer Somkid Phumphuang for the murder of a woman in 2019 in Kranuan district.

The provincial court on Friday made public its ruling in the murder case, posting the documents announcing its decision in front of the court. The court delivered judgement on March 17.

Somkid, 56, was arraigned for the premediated murder of a woman, involving torturing her, theft and concealment of her body.

The court sentenced him to death for the murder. He was initially also given two years in prison for theft and 12 months for concealment of the body.

The jail term for the theft was then increased to three years, under Section 93 of the Criminal Code for any action that affects a corpse or the place where a corpse was found, before the autopsy was performed, and the offence relating to the corpse was also increased, to 16 months, the documents said.

During police interrogation, the defendant had confessed to the murder because of the evidence against him. In court, he denied the charges and fought the case.

The court found he had committed the same offence in six cases.

He was convicted and sentenced for five previous murders. The sixth murder was committed only six months after he was released on parole.

As the defendant showed no fear of the law and no remorse for his actions, the court gave him the death sentence, according to the documents in the case.

Somkid was arrested on a Surin-Bangkok train at Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima on Dec 18, 2019, for the murder of Ratsami Mulichan, 51, at her house in Kranuan district of Khon Kaen.

Ratsami died of suffocation. Her body was wrapped with a blanket, naked from the waist down. Her wrists and ankles had been tied. An electrical wire was fastened around her neck, held with transparent adhesive tape.

Somkid was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering five women in 2005. They were singers and masseuses. He was arrested in the same year. Media reports dubbed him "Thailand's Jack the Ripper".

He was paroled and let free on May 17, 2019. The Corrections Department said he was a "model prisoner". He was arrested in December that year for the murder of Ratsami, who was his sixth victim.

Killer sentenced to death for the 2nd time for the murder of a woman 7 months after being paroled

April 6, 2021 at 1:14 am

by Carla Boonkong & Pranee O' Connor

A pathological woman killer who stole money from his victims as well as their lives. In its judgment in the case, the Khon Kaen Provincial Court certified that Mr Somkid Pumpuang was a remorseless and cruel killer who posed a grave threat to the public if ever released again from prison as it sentenced him, on March 17th, to death without granting mercy.

A Thai court in March sentenced a serial killer who was originally sentenced to be executed in 2005 for the murder of 5 women in hotels across a similar number of provinces to death for the second time after the torture and rape of a 51-year-old hotel maid at her home in Khon Kaen on December 15th 2019, just seven months after he was granted parole and released from prison.

News emerged over the weekend that a Thai serial killer, originally sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of five women but who managed to be released on parole in May 2019, was formally sentenced to death again by the Provincial Court in Khon Kaen on March 17th last for the murder of another woman, 51-year-old Ratsami Mulichan at her home in Khon Kaen on the 15th December 2019.

Police believe that there was a strong sexual element in the perverse and cruel murders committed by the man

Case caused shock and public outcry in Thailand at the end of 2019 and the beginning of last year

There was both shock and a furore after the arrest of 55-year-old Somkid Pumpuang on a Bangkok bound train from Surin on December 18th 2019 by police at Pak Chong Railway Station where he was identified by a witness.

His case caused a public outcry in Thailand at the time with demands for the death penalty to be brought back into more regular and frequent use.

MP proposed that rapists should be castrated

It also drew a proposal from Samut Songkhram MP, Rangsima Rodrasmi, that convicted rapists in Thailand in certain circumstances, be subject to chemical castration orders.

The proposal which came before a committee of the House of Representatives, weeks after the murder, even received qualified support from Minister of Justice Somsak Thepsutin, at the time.

Khon Kaen Provincial Court sentenced the killer to death for the second time for another heinous crime

On March 17th last, the Khon Kaen court sentenced Mr Somkid to death after finding him guilty of the premeditated murder of the woman.

It imposed on him a three-year term for theft from the victim and a third sentence of one year and four months for concealment of her body.

Evidence read out in court showed that Ms Ratsami had died from suffocation.

Her body was found wrapped in a blanket and was naked from the waist down.

Her wrists and ankles had been bound while an electrical wire had been fastened around her neck and held with adhesive tape.

Media dubbed him as Thailand’s ‘Jack the Ripper’ in a country where sexual serial killers are rare

Thai media had dubbed the killer as Thailand’s ‘Jack the Ripper’ in a country where such killers are, according to informed police sources, seldom found despite the country’s high homicide rate and chronic problem with violence against women.

The same source suggests that the pathological serial killer undoubtedly had left behind as yet unknown victims.

In its judgment in March, the court noted that the convicted man had committed similar crimes on at least five previous occasions.

It also confirmed that the man showed absolutely no remorse for his crime and was a danger to the public if ever released again.

Trang native first sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of 5 women linked with the nightlife and sex industry at hotels in different provinces

In 2005, Somkid, originally from Trang province in southern Thailand, was sentenced to death when he was convicted of the murder of 5 women believed to have been nightclub workers, masseuses and sex workers at various hotels in Trang, Lampang, Buri Ram, Mukdahan and Udon Thani.

The serial killer had a pattern of stealing money from his victims as well as raping and torturing them.

Death sentence commuted to life leading to the ‘model prisoner’ being granted parole in May 2019

In 2005, his sentence was commuted by the court from death to life imprisonment and thereafter he was described by the Corrections Department as a ‘model prisoner’ who benefitted from a range of sentence reductions and amnesties until he was finally granted parole on the 17th May 2019.

This was less than fifteen years after being sentenced to death and followed a decision by the prison service parole board.

Moved in to live with his sixth victim on December 5th 2019, Somkid murdered her after 10 days

On December 5th, locals in the Kranuan district of Khon Kaen observed that Mr Sompong appeared to have moved in with Ms Ratsami who worked as a hotel maid locally.

He murdered the woman at her home on December 15th and fled the scene until he was captured by police three days later on the train.

Following his arrest, the killer, confronted by overwhelming evidence, confessed to police that he had committed the murder but then rescinded his confession in subsequent court pleadings.

This was one of the reasons for the court finding on March 17th that there was no basis whatsoever to grant mercy to the serial killer whose death sentence was confirmed.

The prison’s resident Buddhist monk – like the majority of Thai people – has little sympathy for drug traffickers: “Drug dealing is a type of mass murder - it can destroy whole families. If a child becomes addicted to drugs, he drags down his whole family with him. The child starts to steal everything, which ruins the family’s reputation in society. A murderer typically kills only one person. Drug dealers don’t kill just one person - they ruin everyone’s lives.” [Quoted in THE REAL BANGKOK HILTON BBC Documentary 22 July 2004]

A Buddhist monk, Hsing Yun claimed that the abolishment of capital punishment is not valid by the laws of karma and vipāka in Buddhism. He has written, "However, although "severe punishments in chaotic time (亂世用重典)" do not necessarily have effects in stopping crimes, abolishing capital punishment is not valid by the laws of karma and vipāka in Buddhism, because "a karma as such induces a vipāka as such (如是因,招感如是果)"; having committed a karma without experiencing the vipāka is not compatible with reason. Hence, we can wish to reduce the capital punishment, not to recur to the capital punishment, to substitute the capital punishment by other measures, but we do not claim for the abolishment of the capital punishment."

‘DEVIL WORSHIPPER’ CHARGED WITH A 2016 MURDER HAS MURDERED AGAIN IN TEXAS

Edward O'Neal was charged in a 2016 Texas killing and has now been accused of killing again Credit: Houston Police Department

Edward O’Neal, A self-proclaimed “devil worshipper” who has been charged with a 2016 murder is accused of killing once again. He was just 18 when he first arrested over the 2016 murder of Ryan Roberts, whose body was discovered in the woods by an overpass near his home with stab wounds.  On November 28, 2020, he shot Derrick Mike, his cousin’s ex-girlfriend dead.

I do not believe that this recidivist killer has mental illness, I believe that he knew what he was doing, as he committed premeditated murder. As Thomas Szasz said:

Mental illness is a myth, whose function is to disguise and thus render more palatable the bitter pill of moral conflicts in human relations.

'Devil-worshipper' charged with teen's murder in Texas accused of killing again

A self-proclaimed “devil worshipper” who has been charged with a 2016 murder is accused of killing once again.

Edward O’Neal, 23, was in a Texas prison for four years awaiting trial for the 2016 stabbing murder of his 16-year-old friend Ryan Roberts, the New York Post reports.

He was released in August on an AUD $33,000 bond.

But on Saturday, O’Neal was back behind bars, accusing of shooting his cousin’s ex-boyfriend, Derrick Mike.

The 39-year-old victim was found in woodland on November 28 and was able to describe his alleged assailant to police before he died the next day.

Houston Police said O’Neal had confessed to both killings to his mother.

As the delivery driver dropped off the food, a concerned passerby removed the car keys and called police.

Court documents reveal that his mother told police her son had mental issues and that she was “afraid of what else he might do.”

At the time of the 2016 killing, O’Neal’s mother told police that her son worshipped the devil and had killed two family pets.

In a jailhouse interview with local news outlet KPRC2, O’Neal admitted that he was a Satanist but denied killing Roberts.

He was admitted to a psychiatric institution for 120 days and was initially declared mentally incompetent to stand trial.

But when he was found competent again, a judge cut his bond in half at the request of his lawyer.

Edward O’Neal, 23, was in a Texas prison for four years awaiting trial for the 2016 stabbing murder of his 16-year-old friend.

O'Neal had posted $25,000 bail over the 2016 death of Ryan Roberts, pictured, just five months earlier after Judge Mark Kent Ellis had lowered the bond from $50,000. The mother of his alleged first victim slammed the decision to release O’Neal.

“I told the DA (district attorney) he should not get out,” Christina Roberts told ABC13.

“He killed my son, he’ll be killing again.”

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office said it had also opposed lowering the bond amount.

O’Neal is now being held in prison without bond.

VIRGINIA RAPE SUSPECT, IBRAHIM BOUAICHI RELEASED AND KILLED HIS ACCUSER

Bouaichi’s release from jail and the slaying of Dominguez represent a tragic side effect of the pandemic. As the coronavirus erupted in America, civil liberties advocates called for the release of large numbers of prisoners from jails and prisons in order to keep them from being infected and possibly dying in necessarily confined spaces.

Using Covid-19 as an excuse to free prisoners from jails, the ACLU now had blood on their hands for causing the death of a woman and many others.

A man accused of murdering an Alexandria woman, who had accused him of sexually assaulting her last fall, died Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound that occurred as police tried to arrest him again on Wednesday. The man’s family issued a statement Saturday night saying they were grieving the loss of both lives.

Ibrahim E. Bouaichi, 33, had reportedly been in a relationship with Karla E. Dominguez, 31, before an allegedly violent incident in Dominguez’s Alexandria apartment on Oct. 10. Dominguez told police that Bouaichi broke into her apartment and sexually assaulted her. Bouaichi was charged with six felony counts, turned himself in to the Alexandria jail on Oct. 21, and was ordered held without bond.

Bouaichi maintained his innocence, and his lawyers pressed for a quick trial, but then the coronavirus pandemic struck and all trials were postponed. Bouaichi’s lawyers said visitation had been curtailed in the Alexandria jail, that they needed to meet with him before trial and that jails were potential coronavirus hot spots, although Alexandria’s jail had not had a case. They asked Alexandria Circuit Court Judge Nolan Dawkins to allow Bouaichi to post bond.

On April 9, Dawkins agreed to set a secured bond for Bouaichi of $25,000, over Alexandria prosecutors’ objection. The judge ordered Bouaichi to stay in his Greenbelt home and not leave except to meet with his lawyers or pretrial services, and not to have any contact with Dominguez. The judge — who retired in June after 26 years and did not respond to a request for comment — did not order electronic monitoring for Bouaichi.

In early May, Greenbelt police found Bouaichi behind the wheel of his car at a Wendy’s restaurant drive-through, and they allege that he rammed one of their cruisers with his car. He was charged with multiple assault counts, drunken driving and multiple traffic charges, but was released on bond after one night in the Prince George’s County jail.

The Greenbelt incident would have triggered a motion from Alexandria prosecutors to revoke Bouaichi’s bond, Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan L. Porter said. But no one notified Alexandria that Bouaichi had been arrested again.

On July 29, Dominguez was found shot to death outside her apartment on South Greenmount Drive, in the Town Square at Mark Center Apartments. Two days later, Alexandria police obtained a murder warrant for Bouaichi.

But when they went to arrest him, he was gone. After several days of fruitless searching, the police issued a news release Tuesday saying Bouaichi had been charged in Dominguez’s killing, and asking for the public’s help in locating him.

The next morning, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Alexandria officers spotted Bouaichi’s car in Prince George’s County. As they moved in to arrest him, he shot himself, Alexandria police said.

He died Saturday at a local hospital, police said in a news release.

Bouaichi’s family released a statement Saturday evening: “Our brother and son Ibrahim died today, having taken his own life. We are incredibly saddened by Karla’s death and wish this tragedy had never happened. ... As we lay our son to rest, we ask for peace for everyone involved as we grieve our losses.”

Virginia rape suspect released over coronavirus concerns kills accuser: Police

By Jessica Chasmar - The Washington Times

Monday, August 10, 2020

A Virginia rape suspect who was released from jail due to coronavirus concerns killed his accuser before fatally shooting himself, police said Saturday.

Ibrahm Elkahlil Bouaichi, 33, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head following a car chase with police Wednesday in Prince George’s County, Maryland, police said in a statement. Bouaichi was accused of fatally shooting 31-year-old Karla Elizabeth Dominguez Gonzalez, the woman who accused him of sexual assault last year, outside her apartment in Arlington, Virginia, on July 29, ABC 7 reported.

Gonzalez testified against Bouaichi in Alexandria District Court in December. He was charged with six felonies, including rape, and jailed without bond. When the pandemic hit in March, Bouaichi’s lawyers argued he should be freed while awaiting trial out of safety concerns.

Bouaichi was released from jail on $25,000 bond on April 9. Alexandria Circuit Court Judge Nolan Dawkins, who retired in June, ordered Bouaichi to stay in his Greenbelt home except when meeting with his lawyers or during pretrial services, but he did not order electronic monitoring for the suspect, The Washington Post reported.

Gonzalez was notified of his release the same day, according to the Alexandria Sheriff’s office.

Her death marked the first homicide in Arlington this year. A GoFundMe page set up for her family surpassed $10,000 Monday.
