THAILAND’S JACK THE RIPPER SENTENCED TO DEATH (MARCH 17, 2021)

Thailand is a Buddhist country so people are always questioning why executions are allowed here. Yes, killing is sinful but Buddhism teaches us to look at the intention behind the act. The intention here is to protect the country, so it is permitted. Since the Sukhothai dynasty, the King has gone out to fight wars. He and his troops have had to kill enemies to protect the country - execution is the same. [Quoted in THE REAL BANGKOK HILTON BBC Documentary 22 July 2004]

Khon Kaen police with the 55-year-old serial killer who tortured and murdered his 51-year-old victim in the Kranuan district of the province on the 15th December 2019. He also stole from the woman with whom he moved in with 10 days previously. He murdered her just 7 months following his parole after being originally sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of 5 women in hotel bedrooms across Thailand.

On March 17, 2021, the Khon Kaen Provincial Court has passed the death sentence on paroled serial killer Somkid Phumphuang for the murder of a woman in 2019 in Kranuan district. Keep in mind, Somkid was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering five women in 2005. They were singers and masseuses. He was arrested in the same year. Media reports dubbed him "Thailand's Jack the Ripper".

I feel that he is no different from Kenneth McDuff. Just like Barry HadlowLenny Keith Lawson and Keith Burley, Jr., Somkid was a brilliant actor to fool the parole board to release them.  That us why death is a stronger lock than life imprisonment. There is no way a dead killer can reoffend again.

Paroled serial killer sentenced to death for 2019 murder

published : 2 Apr 2021 at 15:11

KHON KAEN: The Khon Kaen Provincial Court has passed the death sentence on paroled serial killer Somkid Phumphuang for the murder of a woman in 2019 in Kranuan district.

The provincial court on Friday made public its ruling in the murder case, posting the documents announcing its decision in front of the court. The court delivered judgement on March 17.

Somkid, 56, was arraigned for the premediated murder of a woman, involving torturing her, theft and concealment of her body.

The court sentenced him to death for the murder. He was initially also given two years in prison for theft and 12 months for concealment of the body.

The jail term for the theft was then increased to three years, under Section 93 of the Criminal Code for any action that affects a corpse or the place where a corpse was found, before the autopsy was performed, and the offence relating to the corpse was also increased, to 16 months, the documents said.

During police interrogation, the defendant had confessed to the murder because of the evidence against him. In court, he denied the charges and fought the case.

The court found he had committed the same offence in six cases.

He was convicted and sentenced for five previous murders. The sixth murder was committed only six months after he was released on parole.

As the defendant showed no fear of the law and no remorse for his actions, the court gave him the death sentence, according to the documents in the case.

Somkid was arrested on a Surin-Bangkok train at Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima on Dec 18, 2019, for the murder of Ratsami Mulichan, 51, at her house in Kranuan district of Khon Kaen.

Ratsami died of suffocation. Her body was wrapped with a blanket, naked from the waist down. Her wrists and ankles had been tied. An electrical wire was fastened around her neck, held with transparent adhesive tape.

Somkid was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering five women in 2005. They were singers and masseuses. He was arrested in the same year. Media reports dubbed him "Thailand's Jack the Ripper".

He was paroled and let free on May 17, 2019. The Corrections Department said he was a "model prisoner". He was arrested in December that year for the murder of Ratsami, who was his sixth victim.

Killer sentenced to death for the 2nd time for the murder of a woman 7 months after being paroled

A pathological woman killer who stole money from his victims as well as their lives. In its judgment in the case, the Khon Kaen Provincial Court certified that Mr Somkid Pumpuang was a remorseless and cruel killer who posed a grave threat to the public if ever released again from prison as it sentenced him, on March 17th, to death without granting mercy.

A Thai court in March sentenced a serial killer who was originally sentenced to be executed in 2005 for the murder of 5 women in hotels across a similar number of provinces to death for the second time after the torture and rape of a 51-year-old hotel maid at her home in Khon Kaen on December 15th 2019, just seven months after he was granted parole and released from prison.

News emerged over the weekend that a Thai serial killer, originally sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of five women but who managed to be released on parole in May 2019, was formally sentenced to death again by the Provincial Court in Khon Kaen on March 17th last for the murder of another woman, 51-year-old Ratsami Mulichan at her home in Khon Kaen on the 15th December 2019.

Case caused shock and public outcry in Thailand at the end of 2019 and the beginning of last year

There was both shock and a furore after the arrest of 55-year-old Somkid Pumpuang on a Bangkok bound train from Surin on December 18th 2019 by police at Pak Chong Railway Station where he was identified by a witness.

His case caused a public outcry in Thailand at the time with demands for the death penalty to be brought back into more regular and frequent use.

MP proposed that rapists should be castrated

It also drew a proposal from Samut Songkhram MP, Rangsima Rodrasmi, that convicted rapists in Thailand in certain circumstances, be subject to chemical castration orders.

The proposal which came before a committee of the House of Representatives, weeks after the murder, even received qualified support from Minister of Justice Somsak Thepsutin, at the time.

Khon Kaen Provincial Court sentenced the killer to death for the second time for another heinous crime

On March 17th last, the Khon Kaen court sentenced Mr Somkid to death after finding him guilty of the premeditated murder of the woman.

It imposed on him a three-year term for theft from the victim and a third sentence of one year and four months for concealment of her body.

Evidence read out in court showed that Ms Ratsami had died from suffocation.

Her body was found wrapped in a blanket and was naked from the waist down.

Her wrists and ankles had been bound while an electrical wire had been fastened around her neck and held with adhesive tape.

Media dubbed him as Thailand’s ‘Jack the Ripper’ in a country where sexual serial killers are rare

Thai media had dubbed the killer as Thailand’s ‘Jack the Ripper’ in a country where such killers are, according to informed police sources, seldom found despite the country’s high homicide rate and chronic problem with violence against women.

The same source suggests that the pathological serial killer undoubtedly had left behind as yet unknown victims.

In its judgment in March, the court noted that the convicted man had committed similar crimes on at least five previous occasions.

It also confirmed that the man showed absolutely no remorse for his crime and was a danger to the public if ever released again.

Trang native first sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of 5 women linked with the nightlife and sex industry at hotels in different provinces

In 2005, Somkid, originally from Trang province in southern Thailand, was sentenced to death when he was convicted of the murder of 5 women believed to have been nightclub workers, masseuses and sex workers at various hotels in Trang, Lampang, Buri Ram, Mukdahan and Udon Thani.

The serial killer had a pattern of stealing money from his victims as well as raping and torturing them.

Death sentence commuted to life leading to the ‘model prisoner’ being granted parole in May 2019

In 2005, his sentence was commuted by the court from death to life imprisonment and thereafter he was described by the Corrections Department as a ‘model prisoner’ who benefitted from a range of sentence reductions and amnesties until he was finally granted parole on the 17th May 2019.

This was less than fifteen years after being sentenced to death and followed a decision by the prison service parole board.

Moved in to live with his sixth victim on December 5th 2019, Somkid murdered her after 10 days

On December 5th, locals in the Kranuan district of Khon Kaen observed that Mr Sompong appeared to have moved in with Ms Ratsami who worked as a hotel maid locally.

He murdered the woman at her home on December 15th and fled the scene until he was captured by police three days later on the train.

Following his arrest, the killer, confronted by overwhelming evidence, confessed to police that he had committed the murder but then rescinded his confession in subsequent court pleadings.

This was one of the reasons for the court finding on March 17th that there was no basis whatsoever to grant mercy to the serial killer whose death sentence was confirmed.

The prison’s resident Buddhist monk – like the majority of Thai people – has little sympathy for drug traffickers: “Drug dealing is a type of mass murder - it can destroy whole families. If a child becomes addicted to drugs, he drags down his whole family with him. The child starts to steal everything, which ruins the family’s reputation in society. A murderer typically kills only one person. Drug dealers don’t kill just one person - they ruin everyone’s lives.” [Quoted in THE REAL BANGKOK HILTON BBC Documentary 22 July 2004]

A Buddhist monk, Hsing Yun claimed that the abolishment of capital punishment is not valid by the laws of karma and vipāka in Buddhism. He has written, "However, although "severe punishments in chaotic time (亂世用重典)" do not necessarily have effects in stopping crimes, abolishing capital punishment is not valid by the laws of karma and vipāka in Buddhism, because "a karma as such induces a vipāka as such (如是因,招感如是果)"; having committed a karma without experiencing the vipāka is not compatible with reason. Hence, we can wish to reduce the capital punishment, not to recur to the capital punishment, to substitute the capital punishment by other measures, but we do not claim for the abolishment of the capital punishment."

ALGERIA SENTENCES A JIHADIST TO DEATH FOR THE MURDER OF A FRENCH HIKER (FEBRUARY 18, 2021)

On this date, February 18, 2021, An Algerian court sentenced Abdel-Malek Hamzawy to death, he is the main defendant in the murder of French mountain guide Herve Gourdel who was beheaded by extremists in Algeria in 2014.

I welcomed the death sentence and I hope that the killer of 19-year-old Chaima Sadou, an Algerian girl who was raped and murdered, will get the death penalty too.

Hervé Gourdel: Man sentenced over French tourist's killing

An Algerian court has sentenced a man to death over the kidnap and murder of a French mountaineer in 2014.

Hervé Gourdel, 55, was abducted while exploring Djurdjura National Park in a case that sparked outrage.

A graphic beheading video later emerged of his death with the Jund al-Khilafa group, affiliated to the Islamic State, claiming responsibility.

One suspect, Abdelmalek Hamzaoui, appeared in court on Thursday with others being tried in absentia.

Hamzaoui denied taking part in the killing, telling the court he had been accused only to "close the case and please the French".

Several of Mr Gourdel's climbing companions, who themselves spent time in captivity, identified Hamzaoui as being among their kidnappers.

Despite his death sentence, Algeria has had a moratorium on executions in place since 1993.

Mr Gourdel, an experienced mountaineer, was visiting the country on a climbing holiday when he was abducted in September 2014.

His captors later posted a video of his beheading online after France refused to comply with their demand to halt its air strikes against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.

The French president at the time, François Hollande, condemned the killing as a "cruel and

owardly" act.

His body was not found until January 2015, after Algeria mobilised thousands of troops to aid in its recovery.

Earlier in February, Mr Gourdel's partner, Françoise Grandclaude, welcomed the news that the trial was "finally taking place" and said she hoped it could offer "hope for the families and loved ones of victims affected by terrorism".

Algeria issues death sentence to suspect for French tourist beheading

February 20, 2021 at 11:37 am

An Algerian court has sentenced to death Abdel-Malek Hamzawy, the main defendant in the murder of French mountain guide Herve Gourdel who was beheaded by extremists in Algeria in 2014.

The trial was attended by the victim's widow and members of his family.

As per the indictment, 14 people are being prosecuted in this case; eight of them are suspected of participating in the kidnapping and beheading of the victim, while six are suspected of "not reporting the crime".

The defendant Hamzawy arrived in an ambulance and witnessed the trial in a wheelchair, accompanied by a medical team and members of the Gendarmerie's Special Forces to supervise him.

It is reported that Gourdel was kidnapped in the Jarjara reserve on 21 September, 2014, a day after his arrival into the country. A videotape was published three days later showing his beheading in an incident that shocked France and Algeria.

The Jund Al-Khilafah group had threatened to execute Gourdel after abducting him if France did not stop its airstrikes against Daesh.

Algeria sentences jihadist to death for French hiker’s murder

An Algerian court on Thursday sentenced to death a jihadist for the kidnapping and beheading of French mountaineer Herve Gourdel six years ago after a high profile one-day trial.

The 2014 killing in Algeria of Gourdel was claimed by a jihadist faction affiliated to the Islamic State group.

Gourdel, 55, was abducted while exploring the rugged massif in the North African nation's Djurdjura National Park, a draw for hikers, but also long a sanctuary for jihadists.

Three days after he disappeared, gunmen from militant group Jund al-Khilafa -- Arabic for Soldiers of the Caliphate -- published a gruesome video of his murder.

The trial opened on Thursday with 14 defendants, eight of whom were accused of being jihadists and were charged with Gourdel's kidnapping and murder.

However, only one of the eight, Abdelmalek Hamzaoui, is in custody. The other seven were tried and sentenced to death in absentia.

On Thursday, Hamzaoui was brought to court by ambulance in a wheelchair accompanied by a medical team and watched over by police special forces.

At the request of defence lawyers, the trial opening had been delayed for two weeks due to his ill health.

Questioned by the judge, Hamzaoui had denied having taken part in the abduction and killing of Gourdel, telling the court he was accused only to "close the case and please the French".

Hamzaoui was found guilty and sentenced to death, though there has been a moratorium on executions in Algeria since 1993.

'Still in shock'

Members of Gourdel's family, including his partner Francoise Grandclaude, were in the public gallery.

"I find it very difficult to talk about him (Gourdel), we are still in shock," Grandclaude said. "But I remember that there are a lot of inconsistencies in the words of the main accused."

Six others also on trial, accused of failing to inform authorities promptly of Gourdel's abduction, were all acquitted, according to an AFP journalist at the court.

Five were Gourdel's climbing companions and spent 14 hours in captivity along with him before being released.

Four of them formally identified Hamzaoui in court as being one of the kidnappers.

"I remember Herve's last look as they were forcibly taking him away," testified Hamza Boukamoum, one of his climbing guides.

"We tried to stop them, but they pushed us back saying: 'You don't care, he's not a Muslim'."

Their lawyers said they also were victims of the kidnapping, while a sixth man, whose car was stolen to transport Gourdel, was also cleared of charges.

Gourdel's murder sparked outrage in both France and Algeria, where it triggered memories of the 1992-2002 civil war between Islamists and the army that left some 200,000 dead.

The murder came in the wake of the Islamic State group's dramatic takeover of northern Iraq and Syria in the summer of 2014.

Adventure enthusiast Gourdel had travelled to Algeria at the invitation of his climbing companions to try out a new climb.

His kidnappers demanded an end to air strikes against IS in Iraq and Syria by a US-led coalition that included France.

Paris had rejected their demand.

Gourdel's body was not recovered until January the following year after an operation involving some 3,000 Algerian troops.

His remains were found in a booby-trapped grave.

In February, his partner Grandclaude had welcomed that the trial was "finally taking place".

Saying it was "very personal", she said the process could offer "hope for the families and loved ones of victims affected by terrorism".

ANTHONY SOWELL IS FINALLY DEAD!

On this date, February 8, 2021, Anthony Sowell AKA The Cleveland Strangler Sleeper, died at 3:27 pm at the Franklin Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Whenever a Killer die by any means, it is good news.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Anthony Sowell, the infamous Cleveland serial killer who committed one of the most shocking series of crimes in the city’s history, died Monday afternoon at an Ohio prison hospital of an unspecified illness, a state corrections department official confirmed.

Sowell, 61, was awaiting the death penalty for the gruesome and depraved slayings that have haunted the Mount Pleasant neighborhood since police found the decomposed bodies of 11 women on his property more than a decade ago.

State prison officials on Jan. 21 moved Sowell from death row at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution to the end-of-life care unit at the Franklin Medical Center in Columbus. He died at 3:27 p.m., according to a prisons spokeswoman.

Sowell suffered from a terminal illness, but Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction spokeswoman JoEllen Smith could not say what illness. She said his death is not the result of the coronavirus.

His case became an international news story. It highlighted deep deficiencies within the Cleveland-area criminal justice system that saw several of Sowell’s victims ignored by law enforcement, allowing him to remain free to rape and kill others. It also called into question how seriously police took the families of missing persons known to live on society’s fringes.

Cleveland paid out more than $1.3 million to victims and their families to settle lawsuits over how detectives handled accusations against Sowell before his arrest.

Sowell had been free from prison for several years by October 2009, having served a 15-year sentence for rape when officers went to his Imperial Avenue home as part of a new rape investigation. Investigators found two decomposing bodies on the third floor and a freshly dug grave in the basement.

Police took Sowell into custody two days later. Meanwhile, investigators combed through every inch of the house and the property on which it sat.

In the end, they found the decomposed bodies of 10 women, as well as a skull in a bucket in the basement.

Investigators later determined that Sowell lured the victims – all vulnerable women who struggled with drug addiction – into his home. He raped and strangled them, discarding their bodies in shallow graves, crawl spaces and even out to decompose in the open air.

The victims who escaped later recounted how Sowell lured them into his life and transformed into a monster. Some spoke of police officers who didn’t believe what they reported.

A jury found Sowell guilty in 2011 of dozens of charges, including multiple counts of aggravated murder and other crimes for the women he killed. He was also convicted of trying to kill three women who survived.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Dick Ambrose sentenced Sowell to death, rejecting arguments that the hard life lived by the killer – a Marine who had an abusive childhood and may have suffered from mental and cognitive disorders – should be a reason to spare his life.

Sowell, like most death-row inmates, continued to fight his case in court to the end.

The discovery of the bodies in Sowell’s home solved a mystery that had real consequences for the neighborhood and a well-established East Side business. Residents at the time complained of a smell that permeated the neighborhood.

Former City Councilman Zack Reed, whose ward included Mount Pleasant, said there was a woman who lived across the street from Sowell who told him the neighborhood smelled like dead bodies.

Drain pipes were flushed and sewers were replaced because of the smell. The owners of Ray’s Sausage next to Sowell’s house spent nearly $20,000 for new plumbing fixtures, sewer lines and grease traps amid complaints that their operation was the source of the odor.

“Those women never got justice,” Reed said in an interview late Monday after news of Sowell’s death spread. “Those families never got justice. The community never got justice. Ray’s Sausage never got justice. There’s nothing good that came out of that situation.”

Couple sentenced to death for sexually assaulting, filming 45 girls

Accused confess to sexually assaulting 45 girls, making inappropriate videos of at least 10 victims

Our Correspondent January 25, 2021

RAWALPINDI:

A local court in Rawalpindi has sentenced a couple to life and death for kidnapping, sexually assaulting, blackmailing and also recording inappropriate videos of dozens of girls.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Jahangir Gondal on Monday awarded death sentence to Qasim Jahangir over rape and recording inappropriate videos while also announcing three-year imprisonment and a total of Rs2.5 million fine.

Convict’s wife Kiran Jahangir has been sentenced to life along with a fine of one million rupees.

The couple confessed to the sexual assault of 45 girls, taking their photographs and making inappropriate videos of at least 10 victims.

The case had gripped media attention for weeks in 2019 after a female student, who is also married, was abducted from outside Gordon College by a woman who pretended to be a fellow student.

The complainant had alleged that she was offered lift by a woman, who kidnapped her. The complainant had further alleged that the kidnapper woman and her husband had assaulted her and filmed the act.

Police had arrested the suspects and recovered dozens of porn videos of local women from their mobile phones, laptops and pen drives.

Kiran had told the victim that her ‘brother’ was coming to pick her in a while. After a few minutes, a man arrived in a grey car and the woman pushed the victim inside the vehicle and threatened her with a knife to silence her.

The student was taken to a house in Gulistan Colony where Qasim, the husband, allegedly raped her while Kiran, the wife, took pictures and recorded video of the crime. They threatened and blackmailed the victim by showing her sexually explicit video. She was dropped on Tipu Road later at night.

According to the complainant, the accused also admitted to have kidnapped several girls of ages 8-12 with the help of his wife and subjected them to similar heinous crime.

Police had also recovered photographs and video clips from the accused’s house.

The police official said that the couple had sold the videos and photos to an international porn website.

Killer of 11-Year-old Adnane Bouchouf in Morocco sentenced to death (January 13, 2021)

“My heart is broken in pain over the killing of the child Adnane. There is no word in the dictionary that describes the severity of these heinous acts. It is astonishing for those who [use] the cover of human rights to try to defend criminals,” - Sheikh Omar Al Kazabri argued that the principles of justice in Islam supports the concept known as “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”

Those words by the top Imam of Morocco are spot on. I agree with him. On this date, January 13, 2021, Morocco’s Court of Appeal in Tangier sentenced a 24-year old man to death penalty for kidnapping, raping, and killing Adnane Bouchouf,  a 11-year old boy in September last year.

The paedophile does not deserve to live. And Clint Eastwood is absolutely right when he said:

Crimes against children are the most heinous crime. That, for me, would be a reason for capital punishment because children are innocent and need the guidance of an adult society. Clint Eastwood

I am satisfied that Adnane Bouchouf’s killer is now on death row with the killers of Louisa Vesterager Jespersen and Maren Ueland. I also thank the Moroccans who condemned the murder and also show support to the victim by launching a petition for the death penalty.

Morocco Sentences to Death Killer, Rapist of 11-Year Old Boy

The incident caused outrage among Moroccans, the majority of whom asked for the severe punishment for the perpetrator.

By Safaa Kasraoui

Rabat – Morocco’s Court of Appeal in Tangier sentenced today a 24-year old man to death penalty for kidnapping, raping, and killing Adnane Bouchouf,  a 11-year old boy in September last year.

Tangier’s court also sentenced the perpetrator’s flatmates. The three flatmates received four months prison sentences each. They will also pay a fine of MAD 1000 each ($80).

Security services found Adnane’s body on September 11 buried in a garden not far from where the family of the victim lived.

The 24-year old defendant kidnapped the boy, raped, and killed him in cold blood on September 7, the day when Adnane disappeared.

The family’s victim had searched for their boy in vain, disturbing flyers and posting Adnane photos.

Moroccan citizens reacted to the incident quickly, sharing the photos of Adnane all over social networks.

When the defendant noticed people’s alert, he rushed to the barber in an attempt to change his look.

A street camera footage showed a young man talking to Adnane before walking away with him.

Security services were l able to identify and find the suspect appearing in the video on Friday, after he had already committed the crime.

During his hearings, the perpetrator claimed he did not rape Adnane Bouchouf. He also claimed that he was not planning to kill him and said he only kidnapped him to ask for a ransom since he was in need of money.

The news about the death of Adnane shocked Moroccans across the country and abroad.

Many asked for the maximum sentence against the suspect, signing a petition on Facebook urging for execution or death sentence.

The imam at the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, sheikh Omar Al Kazabr, defended Moroccans advocating for the death penalty as punishment for the kidnapping, rape, and murder.

A number of activists adopted a firm position against death penalty, however. They argued that  every living person has the right to live, regardless of their crime.
