A man has been executed in southern Somalia for raping his three-year-old stepdaughter. 

Hussein Adan Ali, 28, was found guilty in Dhobley, Jubaland, on Wednesday in a court session broadcast on regional TV. 

Ali's stepdaughter later died of her injuries following the assault. It is not clear when the incident took place, but judges said the girl had died on Wednesday. 

Elders wearing traditional clothing and court officials reviewed evidence before giving their ruling, the BBC reported. 

Somali National TV tweeted a photo of Ali and said: 'Somalia's Jubbaland State has today executed by firing squad Adan Ali who was recently sentenced to death after a court found him guilty of raping a three years old girl who later succumbed to injuries.' 

Ali had been chewing on khat leaves before the assault, which is a Class C drug in the UK and can make people more alert and talkative. 

It can also produce feelings of elation, suppress appetite and lead to periods of insomnia as well as producing a feeling of calm if it's chewed over a few hours, according to FRANK.   

The broadcast on regional TV did not show if Ali was given a chance to appeal or if lawyers were there. 

The court said that the sentence was permitted under Islamic law.

            The above quote is accurate. The Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) has publicly executed a man for raping and killing a six-year-old girl. While I do not endorse their political party at all, I feel that that paedophile should be executed and it was done in a swift and sure manner.

The paedophile does not deserve to live. And Clint Eastwood is absolutely right when he said:

Yangon — The Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) has publicly executed a man for raping and killing a six-year-old girl.

The SSPP is one of at least 21 ethnicity-based armed groups in Myanmar fighting for equality and self-determination. The armed group is still in the process of negotiating with the central government to sign the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).

Ethnic groups control governance and judicial processes in their territories.

“He confessed and there was evidence against him. We delivered the verdict at the trial in front of community leaders and observers. We gave the sentence to protect the rule of law and as a deterrent,” said Sai U Hein, a legal officer at the SSPP’s central court.

The six-year-old from Wan Nwat village in Hsipaw Township was raped and killed by a 30-year-old from the same village on Dec. 9, the court heard. The perpetrator then disposed of the body.

He was arrested by the SSPP the following day and handed the death sentence on Tuesday.

“This is the first child rape case [in our territory] and the first death sentence given for child rape. Under the Penal Code applied by [Myanmar’s] government, life sentences are given for rape and murder. Our citizens were deeply shocked by the crime. We give the death sentence in cases that disrupt community peace and tranquility,” said Sai U Hein.

Hsipaw Township state parliamentarian Nan San San Aye said: “We cannot intervene in the verdict. As the victim is a child, harsh action must be taken as a deterrent.”

It is uncommon for ethnic armed groups to publicly announce trials and death sentences. However, the SSPP released a statement about the execution.

Myanmar amended Article 376 of the Penal Code in March last year, increasing the prison sentence for the rape of under-12s and disabled women to at least 20 years.

Civil society organizations and the public have frequently called for death sentences for child rapists. A proposal submitted to the Union Parliament to allow the execution of child rapists was rejected.

No death sentence has been carried out in Myanmar since 1988, although it remains on the statute books.

An ethnic Shan armed group that unofficially controls a swathe of Shan State in northeastern Myanmar has sentenced a man to death for the kidnap, rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.

An official from the Shan State Progress Party said Wednesday the death penalty was “the only option” for the 30-year-old, who assaulted the girl before throwing her body off a cliff.

Shan State is home to several armed ethnic groups who are allowed unofficial autonomy in an uneasy agreement with Myanmar’s military.

The region is part of the golden triangle – including Thailand and Laos – that is frequently described as lawless, and where huge quantities of the world’s heroin, speed and crystal meth are produced.  

“This is the lesson to give to the people, so they don’t commit the same crime in the future,” said party spokesman Sai Than Aung.

“The girl’s parents demanded we give him the death sentence – just like he did to their daughter.”

Yangon-based lawyer and women’s rights activist Hla Hla Yee said the crime was abhorrent, but said the death penalty was a severe punishment.

“There’s scope with the death penalty that it can be handed to an innocent person and injustice can be carried out,” she said.

Non-governmental organisations say child rape is common in Myanmar, and Hla Hla Yee called for a ramp-up in child protection and sex education programs – particularly targeting online pornography.

“People here don’t have sex education knowledge, so they target the kids around them,” she said. 

Armed groups drawn from marginalised ethnic minority communities control an estimated third of Myanmar’s territory. Civilian and legal administration in these areas often sits outside the government’s jurisdiction.

A French man could be executed by a firing squared in Indonesia after being accused of molesting more than 300 children and beating those who refused to have sex with him.

Police said they arrested pensioner Francois Abello Camille, 65, last month at a hotel in Indonesia's capital Jakarta, where they discovered two underaged girls in his room.

Camille faces death by firing squad or life in prison if convicted on the raft of charges - including accusations he filmed the illicit encounters - under Indonesia's child protection laws.  

Investigators say they found videos on Camille's laptop computer that showed him performing illegal sex acts on hundreds of children aged between 10 and 17.

The pensioner had entered Indonesia on a tourist visa several times over the past five years, according to police.

'He would approach children and lure them by offering them work as models,' Jakarta police chief Nana Sudjana told reporters.

'The ones who agreed to have sex with him would get paid between 250,000 and one million rupiah ($17-70). 

'Those who didn't want to have sex would be beaten, slapped and kicked by the suspect,' he added.

Video footage circulating online shows a handcuffed Camille with his head bowed as he is flanked by by 10 Indonesian police officers during a press conference. 

Police said they believed Camille had been molesting Indonesian children for years and that there may be more victims.

As many as 70,000 children are victims of sexual exploitation annually in Indonesia, according to global anti-trafficking network ECPAT International.

American fugitive Russ Medlin, wanted at home in connection with a $700 million cryptocurrency scam, was arrested in Jakarta last month on allegations he paid underaged girls to have sex with him.

A Somali military court has sentenced a police officer to death by a firing squad for killing two people in in the capital, Mogadishu, during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The police officer, Hassan Adan Hassan, shot the two people dead near their home in Mogadishu, in the pretext of enforcing a Covid-19 curfew which had been imposed just hours before the incident.

The killing of the two young people sparked protests in Mogadishu with protesters demanding the government to arrest and put the police officer behind the killing into trial.

The officer has 30 days to appeal the sentence.

GUATEMALA: TWO MEN EXECUTED BY FIRING SQUAD

Roberto Girón Mendoza and Pedro Castillo were two Guatemalan men convicted of murder and executed, with their deaths by firing squad occurring on 13 September 1996. It was the first official firing squad execution in Guatemala since 1983. It was also the first execution to occur in Latin America, with the exception of Guyana and the Caribbean, in a span of over ten years.

The executions occurred outside of the Canada Penal Farm (Granja de Canadá), in Escuintla, Guatemala. The men had raped and murdered four-year-old Sonia Marisol Álvarez García on 19 April 1993. The execution was broadcast on live television.

The men survived the initial volleys of bullets, so after a doctor had confirmed they were alive a squad leader killed each man by firing a bullet into their heads. The resulting controversy caused the Guatemalan legislature to change the method of execution to lethal injection.

The two were sentenced to death for the kidnap, rape and murder of a four-year-old girl three years ago. The execution was the first to take place in Guatemala in 13 years.

Roberto Giron, 49, and Pedro Castillo Mendoza, 39, were sentenced to death for the murder of a four-year-old girl.

These men kidnapped, raped and then killed Sonia Marisol Alvarez on the 18 April 1993. Today (Friday) the execution took place at 12.00 G-M-T, in Canada prison, near Escuintla, 50 kms south of Guatemala City, after all appeals failed.

 The execution had been suspended twice before, following an appeal by the Inter- American Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of American States (O-A- S).

 The appeal was denied by Guatemalan Supreme Court. Guatemalan President, Alvaro Arzu, prevented another appeal by the American Human Rights Convention.

He also denied a late petition by Pope John Paul II. The last executions in the country happened in March 1983 during General Jose Efrain Rios Montt's government.
