One
of my favorite philosophers, Edmund Burke was born today on 12 January 1729.
He would have been 284 years of age if alive today! In loving memory of him, I
will post one of his quotes and explain about it. You can also learn more about
him by going to this previous blog post of mine.
QUOTE: One that confounds good and evil is an enemy to
the good.
[15 February 1788 - On the Impeachment of Warren Hastings (1788-1794) Articles of Charge of High Crimes and
Misdemeanors, against Warren Hastings]
AUTHOR: Edmund Burke PC (12 January 1729
– 9 July 1797) was an Anglo-Irish statesman, author, orator, political
theorist, and philosopher who, after relocating to England, served for many
years in the House of Commons of Great Britain as a member of the Whig party.
APPLICATION: Although this quote does not refer directly
to the death penalty, I use this quote to criticize the abolitionists who show
too much favour to criminals more than the victims and their families.
